USA: Democratic Leader Urges GOP to Pass Ukraine Aid Package
Washington, USA: The top Democratic lawmaker in the US House of Representatives, Hakeem Jeffries, urged GOP members to swiftly pass a foreign aid package, including funding for Ukraine, by March 22.
Jeffries emphasized national security concerns and criticized delays. Republican Majority Leader Mike Johnson has been withholding the $95 billion foreign aid package, citing insufficient border security measures. Pressure mounts on Johnson to bring the bill to a vote, with the White House confident of its passage.
Polish President Andrzej Duda’s support for Ukrainian aid was noted after his meeting with Jeffries and Johnson. Meanwhile, the Biden administration announced an additional $300 million in security assistance to Ukraine from Pentagon cost-savings.
National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan called for prompt passage of the bipartisan legislation in the House.
